Assignees To Pay High Insurance In MI

From the field:

Per our post yesterday, new Michigan rules make it impossible for non-immigrants (e.g. assignees on an H-1B or L-1 visa) to obtain a state driver's license.  Allstate Insurance confirmed our fear that they will charge their highest car insurance rates to those without a state license.

Health Care System is Confusing

Aetna Global Benefits conducted a survey among benefits managers of 200 mid to large-sized corporations that suggests expected growth in US bound expat populations as well as continued confusion about the American health care system. Forty one percent say they expect the population to increase over the next three years while the US is identified as one of the most challenging foreign assignment locations.

Many foreign nationals have no experience with private health insurance programs. The US system offers an overwhelming number of choices and a dizzying maze of forms to complete. For many people going to the doctor is a stressful enough event without being confused by the process. The survey emphasized the importance of improving access to care while easing the use of the system for their employees and family members.
